Already a multi-year Ice Skating Institute (ISI) National Championship synchronized skating program, Sierra Storm transitioned to US Figure Skating (USFS) in 2007 and was pleased to bring home a Silver and two Pewter Medals at the 2008 Pacific Coast Synchro Sectionals in Nashville, Tennessee. Sierra Storm then went on to field a qualifying level Intermediate team for the 2009 Synchro Sectionals in Denver, Colorado. The 2009-2010 season will see Sierra Storm again marking a new milestone as they add a Collegiate level team to their program. All teams train at Skatetown Ice Arena in Roseville, California and are proud to be a part of the Capital City Figure Skating Club based in Sacramento.

Sierra Storm provides a safe and friendly environment that encourages synchronized ice skating for all members to learn and continue to grow. Coaches instill positive thinking and good values thru teamwork as they teach skaters to skate as a unit not drawing attention to any one skater.
All practices, competitions, shows, and social events are friendly, well-planned, organized, fun, and successful.

Goals The Sierra Storm coaches aim to build a strong program within Northern California and become competitive at a national level. To achieve this they regularly attend continuing education seminars, consult with Team USA coaches as mentors, work with IJS Judges and Technical Specialists and hold critiques.

For 2009-2010 they are focused on continuing to further develop thier skaters at all levels in order to compete at two qualifying levels. Their goals for the skaters are not only focused on excellent synchronized skating but also to build confident young ladies, teach them life lessons, expose them to history & culture as they travel and have them care about their community.  Additionally they aim to balance fun, recreation, team spirit and competitiveness throughout all levels of the Sierra Storm Synchro program.

As our teams advance to the top, it is also important to remember to keep refilling the bottom so we gladly share our excitement about synchro ~ the fastest growing discipline of figure skating ~ with new skaters and encourage them to work on their individual skills, join Skatetown’s In-House Youth Synchronized Team as a starting point or audition for one of Sierra Storm’s beginning level teams. Team placements are normally held in April with the Training/Competitive year running from June thru the following March. Skaters with prior synchro experience or transferring from another synchro team may still contact the coaches about joining Sierra Storm for this competitive season.

History  The Sierra Storm synchronized skating program began in 2003 as a synchronized skating workshop class within Skating School. It then formed two teams to represent Skatetown and compete locally in ISI events for the 2003-2004 season. Each year the program's size and number increased ~ quickly going from 8 young skaters to 61 skaters. The number and skill level of the competitions they attended also grew and in 2005-2006, Sierra Storm took thier first team to the ISI Synchronized National Championships in Chicago where Sierra Storm proudly won two National Championship trophies.  During the 2006-2007 season, all Sierra Storm members attended the ISI Synchronized Skating Championships in Minneapolis competing in 7 different categories and again bringing home 2 National Championships along with 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. At that event Sierra Storm had more synchronized skating teams attending the event than any other synchro organization in the country!

With the skaters skill level growing and the want for higher competitive levels the 2007-2008 season became a transition year from ISI to USFS and the ability to form five teams. At 2008 USFS Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectionals in Nashville, TN and were thrilled to bring home three medals ~ silver in Preliminary and pewter in both Pre Juvenile and Open Junior!
Then 2009 Sectionals in Denver saw thier Pre Juvenile team medal and the Intermediate team skate well - just missing qualifying for Nationals by less than 1/2 a point. This has motivated all the skaters to work even harder to be a top contender in 2010!
